The paper analyzes the novelties of the Calabrian election law. In particular, attention is drawn to drafting shortcomings and recent pronouncements with which the Constitutional Court has annulled parts of that law. We will then focus on some novelties regarding the change of electoral constituencies, the majority bonus and the derogations from the list subscription burden. The issue of gender balance measures is further investigated, highlighting the unconstitutionality of the regional law for breaching the new rules of the framework law. Finally, the importance of the regional executive in the legislative production is assessed and Court cases that have overtaken the President of the Region and several members of the Regional Council in the previous and current legislature.
